The Greeks of Port-Sudan in the 1900s
(Excerpt from the book ‘The Greek community in Sudan’)
In 1906, 1,572 Greeks resided in Port Sudan when the
total population of the city was 7,636 people. Apart from those worked in the
construction sector, there were lots of merchants who represented the big
trading houses of Khartoum. One of these traders was George Lorenzatos, who ran a store and bar with
his brother.
